KGB Radio: Lomachenko-Walters Preview, Ward-Kovalev Recap

Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio

Has everyone calmed down yet?

It’s easy to understand why so many boxing fans weren’t thrilled by Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev Pay-Per-View. The undercard offered woeful action that ran late on the East Coast, and the broadcast ended with a controversial win for Ward, who isn’t particularly popular as-is. The light heavyweight fight was plenty intriguing, though; the action wasn’t incredible, but easy on the eyes for the most part.

Have there been worse years for boxing than 2016? Certainly, though not many. At this rate 2017 cannot come soon enough, but Ward-Kovalev kicked off what could be a fun last six weeks of 2016.

Before we get there, however, Vasyl Lomachenko and Nicholas Walters square off for the former’s WBO super featherweight belt on this weekend’s HBO card in Las Vegas. On paper, the fight is a pairing of highly-skilled technicians that may wind up being able to satisfy a few different kinds of boxing fans.

This week on Knuckles and Gloves Boxing Radio, author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler and Patrick Connor discussed the Ward-Kovalev outcome and fight itself, and previewed the Lomachenko-Walters showdown.
